The University Grants Commission instructed Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to reimburse the fees of students who transferred to other institutions.

In an official notification, the University Grants Commission (UGC) instructed Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to refund the fees of students who transferred to other institutions.

This directive came after the UGC received complaints from affected students who were seeking reimbursement of fees paid to institutes after migrating to different institutions.

“The UGC has received numerous complaints regarding non-refund of fees from several Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). UGC has sent multiple requests to all the HEIs through emails and reminders to address the complaints filed by students seeking a refund of fees paid to the institutes after they migrated to other institutions,” stated the notification issued by the UGC.

The UGC also reiterated to universities that failure to comply with the regulations would result in punitive action as outlined in the relevant guidelines.

As per the admission procedure, the fees paid need to be refunded (as per the policy) soon after the student opts to migrate to other university or educational institution. However, it was recently observed that the educational institutions had delayed the process of fee refund causing inconvenience and confusion in students.

The UGC has analyzed the complaints received in the same matter and has communicated to the institutions to take quick actions in release of the fee refund.
