Himachal Pradesh Govt to Merge 89 Primary Schools with Zero Enrolments

Furthermore, 10 government middle schools have no students enrolled, while 18 have only five, according to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister. 

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu asked the education department on Tuesday to investigate the feasibility of merging government institutions with low enrolment. The CM, who presided over a meeting of senior officers from the education department here, stated that this measure would not only ensure appropriate staffing in schools but would also pave the way for giving quality education to pupils, according to a statement published here. 

He expressed severe worry over the fall in the number of enrolments in government primary schools, which was 1,30,466 in 2002-2003 and 49,295 in 2023-24. He also stated that there were 89 government primary schools in the state with no student enrolment. 

He stated that 701 primary schools had less than five students, 287 of which were within a two-kilometer radius of another school, and an additional 109 schools had only five kids.
Furthermore, he stated that 10 government middle schools have no students enrolled, while 18 have only five. 

The chief minister stated that the state government was establishing Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools in each assembly seat in a gradual way to guarantee quality education and overall student development.

Sukhu said his government had adopted numerous innovative efforts to improve the standards in the government institutions, and the English medium had also been established from first class in all the government schools.

State Education Minister Rohit Thakur and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ashish Butail were among those present at the meeting.
