Newly appointed All India Management Association (AIMA) President Nikhil Sawhney intends to launch a sustainability MBA program in 2024 with the goal of serving as a model for other business institutions looking to launch comparable curricula. “An MBA in sustainability will make our offerings even more relevant. AIMA offers a plethora of courses,” he stated.

In addition to being the vice-chairman and managing director of Triveni Turbines, a company that produces industrial steam turbines and applications based on renewable energy, Sawhney told the correspondent that CXOs need to be knowledgeable about geopolitics and sustainability.

AIMA was founded in 1957 and provides executive education and management development programs, research, publications, testing, distance learning, skill development and training, and forums for young leaders, vice-chancellors, and female leaders and managers.

Upskilling management professionals is a major responsibility of AIMA; among other courses, we provide a postgraduate certificate in management (PGCM), postgraduate diploma in information technology management (PGDITM), and postgraduate diploma in management (PGDM) and PGDM Executive.

The lengths of the PGDM and PGDITM are 24 months, the PGDM Executive is 15 months, and the PGCM is 12 months.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has recognized our courses for open and distant learning (ODL).

Similar to the IGNOU, AIMA was a pioneer in the field of distance education. It was one of the first organizations to nationalize the use of internet-based remote proctored exams and was also the first to move its service offerings online (much before the lockdown made such offerings common). We are able to provide management programs in physical, virtual, and hybrid modes based on this experience.

Sustainability will be the main topic after 2024, and we want to start offering a sustainability MBA.

Since we are living in the age of sustainability, I think it is critical for academics to be aware of the ecosystem in which we operate. Sustainability is a huge opportunity that has the potential to generate enormous economic value, and students need to understand its significance. Sustainability isn’t just about doing Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) correctly.

Although some B-schools offer MBA programs with a sustainability concentration, a fully accredited sustainability MBA can serve as a model for most B-schools looking to incorporate this concept into their curricula.

Having worked in the business, I am aware that employers value this quality in candidates.

Remember that only CXOs emerge from the management pool, hence the entire pool of managers needs to concentrate on sustainability and geopolitics, two of the most important talents in today’s world.

While accounting, marketing, and finance are crucial, policies are driven by sustainability. Indeed, over the next 30 years, sustainability presents a $100-trillion opportunity, according to a recent report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The staff at my firm, Triveni, increased by 15% the previous year and is expected to grow by another 10% this year. This is not to say that MBAs aren’t desired; in fact, they are highly regarded. I believe that the issue is cyclical rather than fundamental, and placements will increase going forward because there will always be a need for skilled workers.

He stated, “In my opinion, our management students should develop a far stronger entrepreneurial spirit and start their own businesses rather than just searching for employment.”

Digital marketing, business analytics, public procurement, contractual dispute resolution, public-private partnership, digital business management, sustainability management, financial valuation & modeling, digital innovation & transformation for enterprises, business consultancy, retail management, corporate social responsibility, cybersecurity & data privacy, AI & ML for business, design thinking for business innovation, waste management & social entrepreneurship, and social enterprise management are among the industries for which we offer industry-based, skills-oriented certificate courses lasting three to six months. Lead faculty resources from academia and industry provide these in a live online format.
