Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan underscores the significance of the Vidyanjali scholarship program as a symbol of a holistic societal endeavor to empower individuals through increased access to educational opportunities. He officially introduced the EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme on Tuesday, highlighting its alignment with the NEP 2020. Pradhan emphasized that this scholarship initiative represents a concerted societal approach to facilitating educational access and opportunities, particularly for economically disadvantaged students.
He commended the achievements of NVS students, highlighting that nearly 14,000 individuals have secured admission to prestigious institutes such as IITs and NITs without the aid of coaching centers. Many of these students come from marginalized backgrounds. Furthermore, he announced that 70 students would be awarded scholarships totaling Rs 5 crore. He stressed the importance of collective participation in nation-building, emphasizing the encouraging support from corporate entities in sponsoring academically gifted students who face financial constraints.
Acknowledging the philanthropic contributions of donor organizations, he emphasized that their generosity would inspire more corporations to support underprivileged students and promote educational pursuits.
Speaking at the event, K Sanjay Murthy, the Secretary of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, highlighted the launch of an initiative in line with NEP2020. The initiative aims to channel philanthropic endeavors towards the education sector.
He commended the achievements of students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) who have secured admissions to prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs, acknowledging the crucial role of sponsors in enabling their success. Murthy expressed confidence in the future, anticipating increased support from sponsors to assist students in their educational endeavors.
