The Ministry of Education has named retired Indian Administrative Officer Pradeep Singh Kharola as the new director general of the National Testing Agency, following the cancellation and postponing of the NEET-UG, UGC NET, and CSIR UGC NET exams. He has replaced Subodh Kumar Singh, an Uttar Pradesh native.

The Ministry has ordered Singh to wait in the Department of Personnel and Training while the investigation into the suspected paper leak continues. Kharola, a 1985 batch IAS officer from the Karnataka Cadre, was chosen as the head of Air India in November 2017. He also served as managing director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation.

In 2019, IAS officer Pradeep Singh was named the next civil aviation secretary. In 2022, he was appointed chairman of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). Since then, he has been serving in the Organization and has now been appointed an additional charge of the National Testing Agency until a regular appointment is made.
