Unacademy Appoints Abhishek Pipara as CFO of Offline Centres Business

Edtech startup Unacademy headed by Gaurav Munjal has appointed Abhishek Pipara as Chief Financial Officer for its offline centers business. In this new role, according to the company, Pipara will concentrate on further efficiency, optimum unit economics, growth, and profitability at the center level. 

Pipara has 16 years of proficiency in fundraising, mergers, and acquisitions, and operational systems and processes. He has been related with Unacademy for more than six years and has contributed a lot towards the financial strategy of the company. According to Munjal, Pipara is the best one for the role, he has been an instrumental part of our journey, driving financial efficiency and strategic growth, with him by my side, I have complete confidence that we would continue to scale and move forward. 

Before Unacademy, Pipara was an all-rounder working in a range of roles in startups and consulting firms. Between May 2015 and February 2018, he was the head of finance at Little App-an online-to-offline service company. Besides, he also worked as the head of finance at the retail apparel brand Zovi from 2013 to 2018 and as a deputy manager at Deloitte from 2008 to 2010. 

Unacademy was founded by Munjal, Hemesh Singh and Roman Saini in 2015 and it operates both offline as well as online learning centers. This Bengaluru based startup boasts of an office in nearly 40 cities in India and has a network of more than 91,000 registered educators and over 99 million learners. 

Unacademy has been going through some massive restructuring recently. In July, it became known that COO for offline centers Jagnoor Singh would be departing. His departure follows a statement by cofounder and Chief Technology Officer Singh, where he said he would be stepping back from the day-to-day activities of the company after more than eight years with the startup. Since then, an Unacademy Partner, Sumit Jain has taken his place and has joined the board of the startup. 

Earlier this year, Unacademy also expanded its offerings by launching the Unacademy Language Learning App. This marked its foray into the language learning space. For FY2022-23, the company recorded a reduction in loss to INR 1,678.1 crore compared to INR 2,847.9 crore during the previous fiscal year.
