Summer Survival: Top 8 Cooling Tips

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!This is the most important tip for staying cool in the summer. When you sweat, your body loses fluids, which can lead to dehydration, heatstroke, and other health problems. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.

Dress for the weather.  Wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing made from natural fibers like cotton or linen. These fabrics allow your skin to breathe and help you stay cool. Avoid dark colors, which absorb heat, and opt for light-colored clothing that reflects sunlight.

Seek shade and shelter.  The sun is the main source of heat, so it's important to stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible. If you're going to be outdoors, find a shady spot or use an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun.

Take a cool shower or bath.  A cool shower or bath is a great way to lower your body temperature and cool off quickly. You can also try splashing cool water on your face and neck.

Limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.  If you must exercise outdoors, do it early in the morning or later in the evening when the temperatures are cooler.

Eat light, cool meals.  Heavy meals can make you feel sluggish and overheated. Opt for lighter fare, such as salads, fruits, and vegetables.

Make your own air conditioning.  If you don't have air conditioning, there are a few things you can do to cool down your home. Close your curtains and blinds during the day to keep out the sun's heat. Turn on fans to circulate air and create a cooling breeze. You can also try filling a bowl with ice and water and placing it in front of a fan.

Enjoy water activities.Swimming, splashing in a kiddie pool, or even just running through the sprinkler are great ways to cool off on a hot summer day.
