Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday announced the state to be at the crossroads of transformation in its education system. Speaking at a press conference here, CM Mann mentioned that as many as 27 lakh parents attended the massive PTM held at government schools, which he said was reflective of the participation of parents in the education system of their children, something that was more in private schools. 

The government, going ahead, will establish eight high-end, state-of-the-art centers that will prepare students for national-level competitive examinations such as UPSC. New centers are going to provide quality training to the youth of Punjab, whose prospects in national assessments will be bright. 

Several initiatives were brought forth by CM Mann for the education system. Six batches of 202 principals and education officers were sent to Singapore for a five-day leadership development programme, and 72 primary teachers received professional training in Finland. Training was also provided by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad to three batches amounting to 152 headmasters and education officers. Such steps reflect the seriousness and commitment of government towards ensuring that all students in Punjab succeed in all dimensions. 

The state has also rationalized 12,316 workers in the education department and inducted 10,361 teachers in the education department since April 2022. The school infrastructure is being enhanced as a part of a more comprehensive policy that has seen 118 government schools being declared ‘Schools of Eminence’ with high-speed internet connection with a budget of ₹29.3 crore. Transport facilities have also been launched for such schools and 17 senior secondary schools for girls. 

CM Mann also announced measures to develop the Kandi region as a tourist hub to diversify Punjab’s economy and reap the bounty of natural beauty for international tourists. 

Initiatives by the Chief Minister are, indeed significant milestones in the modernization of the education system in Punjab, and it aims at creating students who are better prepared and globally competitive, which might bring immense change in the educational scenario in the state.
