The number of Indian students choosing to study in the United States has climbed dramatically during the last three years. According to statistics, 69% of Indian students prefer higher education in the United States than any other destination.

The United States Mission to India issued more student visas in 2023 than in 2018, 2019, and 2020 combined. This unprecedented expansion underscores the US Government’s continuous commitment to prioritizing students and facilitating their travel, even as the Mission faced a 400 percent increase in demand for all other visas between 2021 and 2023.
On June 13, 2024, the Consular Team India interviewed 3900 student visa applicants for its 8th annual Student Visa Day.

Mission India highlights the consular team’s strong commitment to higher education in the United States, as well as the growing educational ties between the two countries, by organizing a robust Student Visa Day program in which Mission members and EducationUSA interact with applicants to share information about studying in the US.
Ambassador Eric Garcetti expressed his warmest wishes to all Indian students, stating that every international student on a US school signifies a remarkable accomplishment – years of study and hard work that went into preparation for academic excellence. Today’s 3900 students, like those who have previously traveled to the United States, have enormous potential, he continued.

Russell Brown, Minister-Counselor for Consular Affairs, emphasized that each student is an ambassador for India. This year, as Indian students prepare to become the biggest group of international students in the United States, the Department of State and EducationUSA personnel are looking forward to welcoming student visa applicants on Student Visa Day and throughout the student season.”
The US Embassy and Consulates in India anticipate an increase in student visa applications from India and have lengthened the visa season for 2024 to fulfill this demand.
