The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee recently inaugurated the fifth edition of Yuva Sangam, the flagship event under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative by the Ministry of Education. The national initiative aims at cross-cultural exchange, leadership development, and strengthening national integration among India’s youth. The event brought a major step forward in cementing cultural ties and further developing leadership skills among the younger participants.
Yuva Sangam – V stands as a powerful example of the role of cultural exchange in fostering national integration. Through such initiatives, IIT Roorkee continues to play a very important role in shaping an inclusive India and empowering youth to embrace the diversity of the nation and to develop leadership and collaborative skills needed for the future.
The inaugural function of Yuva Sangam – V started with the entry of 45 student delegates from Jharkhand, with faculty coordinators from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. He was given a warm welcome through the lamp lighting ceremony and followed by the Kulgeet of IIT Roorkee. Prof. M.V. Sunil Krishna, Nodal Officer for Yuva Sangam – V, gave a vision on the program’s objective where it underlines the importance cultural exchanges have in the future building of India’s youth.
Prof. Barjeev Tyagi, Dean of Students’ Welfare at IIT Roorkee explained the importance of events like Yuva Sangam in the expression of India’s cultural and diverse heritage in terms of building national integration. He noted, “Yuva Sangam gives the youth an exclusive platform to engage with India’s cultural heritage, but also inculcates values of respect and collaboration that would propel the nation forward.” Prof. U.P. Singh, in his welcome address, appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Education in such initiatives. Yuva Sangam he said, represents the basics of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat-target all youths in the states of this great land under one umbrella, create ideas, partnerships, and good understanding and appreciation of India’s vibrant cultural tapestry.
The course will take participants through the rich cultural and natural heritage of the state, exploring all the major centers, from Haridwar to Rishikesh, Kotdwar, Lansdowne, and Dehradun.
An integral part of the program includes interactions with women’s self-help groups in local villages, which helps to gain grassroots development insight and rural livelihoods understanding. The cultural performances to be showcased by the Jharkhand delegation will further give an idea of its rich traditions.
The itinerary includes educational, cultural, and leadership activities- an industrial visit to Bhagwanpur and SIDCUL, heritage sites such as Sidhbali Temple and Tarkeshwar Dham Mandir in Uttarakhand. These activities should enhance the participants’ perception of the region’s historical and cultural heritage.
