Himachal Pradesh Government to Release SOP for Expanded Overseas Education Loan Scheme

Himachal Prades

Himachal Pradesh Cabinet recently sanctioned the extension of Dr. YS Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojna to provide financial help for students who intend to pursue studies abroad. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Sunday that a detailed SOP will be released shortly to facilitate the same scheme.

This expansion would allow eligible students to take advantages of education loans to the amount of ₹20 lakh with just one percent interest rates for professional and vocational courses in foreign institutes. Chief Minister Sukhu asserted here that this move would empower students who desire to pursue higher studies abroad, without any barriers related to finances.

The loan scheme was launched last year, specifically for economically weaker section students from the meritorious category-maintaining an annual income of less than ₹4 lakh. “Our government is committed to providing quality education to every youth and through this scheme we ensure no such student is denied higher or professional education, solely on account of a financial weakness.”.

The Chief Minister added that the move is a testimony to the commitment of the state government to quality education for all without any economic barriers. To back this initiative, the government has allocated ₹200 crore under the scheme.

The second set of announcements was a part of loan provisions. Sukhu also announced the appointment of the grievance redressal officer, who would heed to the issues or concerns students may have raised with regard to the implementation of the scheme, ensuring effective execution and support for students navigating their educational journeys.

It reflects a more general commitment to increasing access to higher education and the development of youth in the state. The subsequent SOP is likely to provide more clearness and guidance because the new scheme has expanded the application and eligibility criteria.
