Following the bus accident, Haryana’s Education Minister Announces Schools will be Accountable if Drivers Found Intoxicated

The incident occurred near Unhani village around 8:30 am, as a bus transporting students from primary to secondary classes to G L Public School was involved. Following the tragic accident where a speeding school bus carrying approximately 30 students resulted in the deaths of six children and injuries to 20 others, Haryana Education Minister Seema Trikha emphasized on Thursday that all private schools must submit an affidavit confirming compliance with transport regulations for their vehicles.

It was discovered that the bus driver was intoxicated. Trikha further asserted that schools would be held accountable if their drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol.

In discussions with sources, she conveyed, “I want to inform the entire state that today a show cause notice has been issued to the school, and in addition, we have obtained self-affidavits from the private schools. Secondly, they are required to furnish an affidavit regarding their transportation vehicles, ensuring compliance with transport regulations and standards. Thirdly, if any driver employed by them is found to be intoxicated, the schools will bear the responsibility.”

Following the accident, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Assistant Secretary Pradeep Kumar was suspended by the government.

The incident occurred near Unhani village in Kanina around 8:30 am, as the bus was transporting students from primary to secondary classes to G L Public School.

Up to now, the police have apprehended three individuals, including the school’s principal, Deepti, and the driver, Dharmender. According to the police, the bus lost control due to reckless driving, colliding with a tree and overturning.

Describing the incident as tragic, President Droupadi Murmu stated, “The news of the tragic loss of many innocent children in a school bus accident in Mahendragarh district of Haryana is deeply saddening. May God grant strength to the grieving parents and relatives to cope with this devastating loss. My prayers are for the swift recovery of the injured children.”
