UGC Introduces its Annual Capacity-building Plan for Staff Development

On Tuesday, January 2, the University Grants Commission (UGC) unveiled its annual capacity building plan. The goal of this approach is to help employees develop and improve their skill sets.

In the presence of Dr. R Balasubramanium, Member HR, Capacity Building Commission, UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar officially launched the organization’s Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) today. As the first independent organization, UGC has worked with the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) to start preparing for employee capacity building.

According to Kumar, “the goal is to build, develop, and enhance UGC employees’ abilities, talents, competencies, efficiency, and qualifications to increase their capacity to serve India’s higher education system.”

Under this program, UGC staff members will receive training in four important areas.

Behavioral abilities enable UGC employees to take on more responsibility than they typically do.

Enhancing domain competencies will help UGC employees perform better in specialized domains like policy-making or project management. — Functional competencies will assist UGC personnel perform better in administration, procurement, and financial management. Training in more recent technology competences enables them to use technology platforms to communicate with stakeholders, realize lower turnaround times, increase efficiency, and maintain better digital records.

By September 15, 2023, over 600 UGC employees had been onboarded onto the iGot Karmayogi platform. UGC announced that 630 employees have successfully finished over 4500 courses in the first quarter (October to December 2023), with an average of 7 courses completed by each employee.

Additionally, UGC planned to continue the offline and in-person training sessions it held for its employees last year to build their capacity and support the government’s initiative, Mission Karmayogi for Skill enhancement of government employees. These sessions covered a range of topics, including Reservation in Services, Introduction to Emerging Technologies using AI, Overview of Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) using Higher Education data and relevant use cases, PFMS Awareness of General Financial Rules, Contract Management and Purchase of Services, RTI, etc.
